These rare primates are native to Africa and are found within the Virunga Region.<\/em><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Golden monkeys belong to the Old World monkey order and were once thought to be a sub-species of the blue monkey. Their population is estimated to be about 4000-5000 individuals surviving within the Virunga region. Scientifically, golden monkeys are known as <em>Cercopithecus kandti<\/em>\u00a0and are differentiated from other species by their golden-orange patches on their backs and flanks.<\/p>\n<p>Tourists who are interested in golden monkey tracking in Africa can do it from four national parks:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.travel256.com\/uganda-safaris\/3-days-mgahinga-gorilla-safari.html\">\u00a0Mgahinga Gorilla National Park<\/a>, southwestern Uganda,<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0Volcanoes National Park, northwestern Rwanda,<\/li>\n<li>Virunga National Park, eastern DR Congo, and<\/li>\n<li>Kahuzi-Biega National Park, eastern DR Congo.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Golden monkeys are confined to the mountainous forest, near the\u00a0dense bamboo forest zones.
