{"id":499,"date":"2018-11-12T11:32:45","date_gmt":"2018-11-12T08:32:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.travel256.com\/safari-news\/?p=499"},"modified":"2018-11-12T11:33:03","modified_gmt":"2018-11-12T08:33:03","slug":"the-source-of-nile-bridge-fifth-longest-in-africa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.travel256.com\/safari-news\/2018\/11\/the-source-of-nile-bridge-fifth-longest-in-africa\/","title":{"rendered":"The Source of Nile Bridge &#8211; Fifth Longest in Africa"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"row\">\n<div class=\"container article_conatiner\">\n<div class=\"container_left\">\n<div class=\"article-content\">\n<p>The New cable-stayed Source of the Nile Bridge has been described as a thing of beauty \u2013 an architectural masterpiece as any you would find anywhere in the world.<\/p>\n<p>The 525m long cable-stayed bridge is the second of its kind in East Africa after Tanzania\u2019s 680m-long Kigamboni Bridge which was commissioned a fortnight ago.<\/p>\n<p>And in Africa, the Source of Nile Bridge is the fifth longest cable-stayed bridge behind Egypt\u2019s Suez Canal Bridge (3,900), Lekki Ikoyi Bridge in Nigeria (1,360m), Mohammed VI Bridge in Morocco (950m) and Tanzania\u2019s Kigamboni.<\/p>\n<p>Ahead of it\u2019s commissioning by President Yoweri Museveni on Wednesday, Eng. Samuel Muhoozi, the Director of Roads and Bridges at Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA), \u00a0contends that the new bridge has the ability to become a major tourist attraction because of its \u00a0novelty.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOne of the aims of constructing this bridge was enhancing <a href=\"http:\/\/www.travel256.com\">tourism in Uganda<\/a> with addition of this iconic signature bridge in this picturesque location,\u201d Muhoozi told the media earlier today.<\/p>\n<p>The new bridge has fan shaped single plane stay cables and inverted Y Pylon just like other iconic cable-stayed bridges elsewhere in the world.<\/p>\n<p>Constructed at a cost of $112m (about sh411.1b), the Source of Nile Bridge is expected to have a life span of 120 years.<\/p>\n<p>Over the years, countries that have pulled off unique engineering masterpieces have been able to turn them into tourism cash cows. And one such country is Vietnam whose \u2018Golden Arms Bridge\u2019 has continued to draw tourists from all corners of the globe.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-500\" src=\"https:\/\/www.travel256.com\/safari-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/sp001pixx.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.travel256.com\/safari-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/sp001pixx.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.travel256.com\/safari-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/sp001pixx-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/>Nestled in the forested hills of central Vietnam two giant concrete hands emerge from the trees, holding up a glimmering golden bridge which is normally crowded with gleeful visitors taking selfies.<\/p>\n<p>And turning the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.travel256.com\/uganda-safaris\/2-days-jinja-tour.html\">Source of the Nile<\/a> Bridge into a \u2018must visit site\u2019, Muhoozi contends, \u00a0will not be asking too much from those eager to market Uganda as a preferred port of call for tourists.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The New cable-stayed Source of the Nile Bridge has been described as a thing of beauty \u2013 an architectural masterpiece as any you would find anywhere in the world.
